Software and Online Sources

 

The software and online sources liste below are those that I use a great deal when creating and presenting lessons for secondary general music classes - I'd truly be lost without them!  Most are free and compatible with both PC and Mac.

Description:  Audacity is a free, easy-to-use, multi-track audio editor and recorder. There are multiple features to this program, which include cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together. It also allows numerous effects including change the speed or pitch of a recording.

Description:  HandBrake is an open source video transcoder that can convert video from nearly any format to a selection of modern, widely supported codecs.

Description: LunaPic in a free, online photo editing program.  It includes precise, useful paint tools, intuitive photo editing tools and unique, customizable animation effects. Standout features include

  • Transparency

  • Video editing

  • Carte-blanche image creation tools and features

  • Social networking and photosharing site integration

Description: Pinterest is described as a virtual discovery tool that can be used to find ideas for all your projects and interests. There are "boards" for everything (by people way more crafty than I am) and is a great place to get ideas.

Description: QuickTime is a free video and audio editing software package that is available for both pc and mac.  I use it extensively to create movie clips of movies that I own with the trim feature (command T) .

Description: Teachers Pay Teachers is an open market place where educators can buy, sell, & share original teaching resources.

Description: ViewPure is an online website that allows you to watch YouTube videos without comments, ads, or other distractions.  This is specifically helpful for teachers who may want to show a YouTube video in class.

Description:  Virtual DJ is a free, complete DJ turntable program that has all the features DJs want. It lets you "mix" your songs, adjust their relative speed so the tempos match, apply effects like loops, and crossfade from one side to the other. It also lets you scratch your songs, set and recall cues, and all the other regular features DJs expect to find to be able to mix.
