This app is the 'high tech' version of the Another Stomp lesson

 

Materials

 

* iPads

 

* MadPad app

 

* Percussion Instruments and/or Rhythm Sticks, Melodic Instruments

 

* Headphones (optional)

 

 

Preliminary Step - Watch some videos of MadPad compositions like the below.

1. Demonstrate some of the basic features of the app, such as creating/recording buttons, creating a loop, recording a

    loop, and saving workin camera roll.  The key is to record 1 beat of sound per 'button' in a quiet area.

 

 

2. Ask students to create sounds that have either all rhythm or a combination of both melody and rhythm, and be 30

    seconds to 1 minute in length.

 

3. Allow the students time to explore the app and create. 

 

4. Ask students to save work to the iPad camera roll, then email their finished work to the teacher's email.  Note: The app

    also allows exporting directly to YouTube.

 

5. Present compositions for the class.

* Students create compositions in different forms: ABA, ABACA etc.
