To introduce DJing, ask students to read the Hip Hop intro then watch the following movie (click the icon). Students will need to complete the DJing Listening Activity Worksheet while watching the movie (see pdf).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Activity - Beginning DJing Computer Project

 

 

1. Download the Virtual DJ8 software, which is free and available for pc or mac (http://www.virtualdj.com/download/)

 

2. You will need to create a folder of songs the students can use for this project.  Check each for lyric content etc. 

    This folder must be on each computer's desktop.

 

3. Ask students to divide into pairs.

 

4. Hand out the Virtual DJ Tutorial found below.  This pdf contains a detailed lesson that students can do on their own

     at individual computer stations.

 

 

 

 

 

5. Once done, students could take turns DJing for the B-Boying Lesson.

 

6. As a wrap-up, show a portion of the below video that combines DJing with Classical Music, then ask them to do the

    Are DJs Musicians Worksheet.
