Secondary General Music Lesson Ideas
B-Boying
To introduce B-Boying, ask students to read the Hip Hop intro then watch the following video (click icon below). Students will need to complete the B-Boy Dance Moves Worksheet while watching the movie (see pdf).
Activity - Beginning B-Boying
1. The below movies are detailed lessons of very basic B-Boy steps taught by a dance instructor. Students should
watch and follow the instructor to learn the steps. I usually move all desks off to the side and show this on the
SmartBoard so students have the space to work on the dance steps, as well as see the dance instructor.
* Note: There are several steps included. Depending on the class, the students could learn 2-3 in one day or a
few more. None of the steps are difficult - these really are basic - but it may be difficult for students to
remember more than just a couple at a time. I normally have the students learn 1-2 steps throughout the
Hip Hop lessons.
2. Now that the students have started to learn some B-Boy dance steps, ask them to watch the following videos of
some truly amazing b-boy dancers.
3. To wrap-up this lesson(s), show the below video that combines B-Boying with Classical Music.

Basic Move Scooby Doo Happy Feet
Reject & Jerk Running Man Cat Daddy
Cabbage Patch Stick & Roll The Susie Q
