Hidden Treasure
Materials
Hidden Treasure PowerPoint Template (click here)
All slides within this PowerPoint template can be edited. I have change the background to match holidays, school logo etc., as well as made fewer boxes.
Review Questions/Flashcards - enough for the number of squares you have on the game board.
Directions
1. This game is suitable for the whole class to participate, but split into 2-4 groups (my students like to split between girls
and boys). Create a 'hot seat' for each team.
2. Ask Team 1 a question (or show a flashcard).
3. The student from Team 1 in the hot seat must answer the question.
If they answer correctly, they may choose one number on the game board (clicking the box will make it disappear). If the
number they chose has the hidden treasure under it, then the whole team gets a prize (I use fun size candy, coupon for
extra free time etc.). If the chosen number does not have the hidden treasure under it, the game resumes with the next
team getting a chance to answer a question and choosing a number.
If they answer incorrectly, then they do not get to choose a number on the game board to see if there is a hidden
treasure.
6. Give each team 1-2 'lifelines'. These lifelines can be used if the student in the hot seat does not know the answer, then
they may ask 1 teammate for help. However, once a teammate has served as a 'lifeline' they cannot be used again in
this capacity during the game.
Extra Things
The final prize goes to the whole team - not just the individual who picked the winning number.
My middle school students love this game... perhaps its because of the candy prize at the end. Whatever the reason, I have many, many sets of flashcards for all sorts of concepts. Below are some screenshots of one of my game boards.
