Lesson Sequence

1. Play Gymnopedie as students are finding their seats.

2. The final way we are going to discuss Harmony with Homophonic Texture is through the use of Harmonic Ostinatos.

Definition: Harmonic Ostinato is a short, repeated chordal accompaniment pattern which is intended to be performed along with a melody.

3. Harmonic Ostinatos are found all over in music - from classical to folk to popular.  Here are a few examples.

4. Play an Orff arrangement with a cross-over Bordun.  All students play the Bass Metallophone part (the bordun). Remind them of the techniques

for playing Orff instruments and the bordun.  The rest of this arrangement can be found under the Playing Instrument tab.
